Project Title: Inestigating Malaria Entomological Indices and Insecticide Susceptibility status of Malaria vectors in Bulyanhulu Gold Mining site and its surrounding villages in Northern Tanzania

Project Description: Malaria is a deadly disease that is transmitted by the bite of infected mosquitoes. Tanzania is one of the countries in Africa that has been affected by malaria. Due to mining activities, Bulyanhulu Gold Mining site and its surrounding villages are at high risk of malaria transmission. As part of efforts to combat this disease, Barrick Gold Mining has commissioned a study to investigate the Malaria Entomological Indices and Insecticide Susceptibility status of malaria vectors... Malaria is a deadly disease that is transmitted by the bite of infected mosquitoes. Tanzania is one of the countries in Africa that has been affected by malaria. Due to mining activities, Bulyanhulu Gold Mining site and its surrounding villages are at high risk of malaria transmission. As part of efforts to combat this disease, Barrick Gold Mining has commissioned a study to investigate the Malaria Entomological Indices and Insecticide Susceptibility status of malaria vectors in the area. The study aims to collect data on the common mosquito species that carry malaria in the Bulyanhulu Gold Mining site and surrounding villages. The data will help the company to understand the behavior of these mosquitoes, including where they breed, when they are most active, and how they respond to different insecticides. This information will be used to develop more effective strategies for controlling malaria in the area. The study will also test the insecticide susceptibility status of the malaria-carrying mosquitoes in the area. This will help researchers determine which types of insecticides are most effective in controlling these mosquitoes. The findings of this study will be critical in guiding the development of more effective malaria control measures in the Bulyanhulu Gold Mining site and surrounding villages, which could ultimately save lives and improve the health of the local community surrounding the mining sites.
